Personal projects
“For me, photography is not only a way of recording events or promoting products, but an important part of my artistic journey. These photos are a part of my personal projects and exhibitions. In each of these projects I make an effort to push my creative limits and create something striking and engaging for the viewer. Something that tells a story.”
Neo Edo
Exhibition Statement
Neo Edo: Dreams of a lost future, is a mixed media experience that immerses you in a fiction that has helped me understand the real world. What began as a love letter to the media and stories I admired, became this space for me to process what is happening in our world, and explore new ways of thinking about it. This exhibition depicts a cautionary tale of a distant future where humanity struggles with a world that they left in ruins; a reflection of the dismal outlook that we all may experience. Nuclear war, artificial intelligence, climate collapse, failure of the justice system, and overreaching, invasive mega-corporations play on our psyche, however, this world is not without hope. Through creativity, we can foster an attitude of resilience and the ability to make the most of what we have. It is a pillar of Australia I hope we can rebuild and a shift in this consumer culture that led us here.
Inspired by miniatures in 80’s sci fi cinema and prolific surrealist artists such as Salvador Dali and Simon Stallenhag, Neo Edo includes both miniature sculpture and landscape photography composed together in a juxtaposition of scale. Many of the sculptural elements for this exhibition are made from discarded plastic rubbish and refuse, leading to a very interesting creative process. With little waste and a surprising transformation during the painting process, a jumbled mess of shapes becomes a new unified object, completely different from the sum of its parts. The recycled nature of many of the sculptures and miniatures reflects the practical, creative ability of humanity. It stands as a beacon of hope against the often clinical and cold domination of corporations, and the disposable lifestyle of modern society.

The Celts
The Celts
The Celts began with a trip to a Celtic Festival with my family and grandparents. My granny is Irish so this history is an important part of who I am. It was a great experience overall, but the one highlight for me was seeing these LARPing group putting on mock fights.
I was so inspired by the experience that I decided to make a short series of photos on them. In many of these images there was background elements that broke the emersion like cars or modern sheds so this was one of my first attempts at some serious clone masking, general photoshop and colour grading to give these images the intensity that they needed.
These images were my forte into making immersive fantasy-esk images and even to this day they hold a special place in my heart.
